Why do international students tend to concentrate in urban areas such as Tokyo or Osaka in Japan?
There could be many reasons for this. Being in an urban setting offers convenience in terms of transportation, shopping, and entertainment, and there are many opportunities for students to work part-time, or it could simply be because their friends are there. on the other hand, former international students who studied in rural areas gave many reasons for choosing rural over urban areas. These reasons include: a cheaper standard of living compared to cities, special program classes available due to the small number of international students, closer relationship fostered with local people, beautiful natural environment, clean water and air, along with the fact that traditional culture is part of their everyday life.
So, select your university by not only focusing on Tokyo or Osaka but broadening your horizon and look throughout Japan.
